COVID-19 Memorial Quilt

Local eighth grader Madeleine Fugate is sewing a memorial quilt to honor the lives lost to COVID-19. People around the world send in handmade squares, and Madeleine and her team of volunteers sew them together into quilt panels. With every stitch, they transform individual grief into a healing community art project.

I was watching the news and they kept saying "the numbers" are going up and I said, "They aren’t numbers, they’re people." My Mom worked on the AIDS Memorial Quilt in the 1980s, so I said, "Let’s make a Covid Memorial Quilt to honor the people who died and help our country heal."
